突然ですが、皆さんは、スキー経験者でしょうか？

私は、一度も雪山というものを滑ったことがありません。スキー・スノーボード愛好家からは「岐阜出身なのに！」、「日帰りで行けるのに！」、「なんでやらないの？もったいない」と言われたことは多々ありますが、スキー靴を装着せずとも、私が雪山を立って滑れないことは、凍結した道にスニーカーで立った瞬間に転ぶことからも容易に想像が付くので、あえて道具をそろえて試すまでもないのです。

そういうわけで、ゲレンデで若者同士の間で一体何が行われているのか、よく知らないでこれまで生きてきました。80年代に一大ブームを巻き起こした、ホイチョイ三部作の第1作『私をスキーに連れてって』をはじめ、アーリィ90sにアルペンのCMソングとして起用された広瀬香美さんのヒット曲『ロマンスの神様』、90年代後半以降のスノボブームなどは、身近でありつつも遠い世界の出来事でした。

↑ああ、まずリフトが怖い…あんなもこもこの服を着て足首の角度が固定されているような靴を履いていたら、バランスを崩して落ちるに決まっている。

最近では、本田翼さん、川口春奈さんに続き、広瀬すずさんがJRスキーのCMに起用されていて、駅でポスター広告を見かける機会も多いですが、2014年1月のビジネスジャーナルによると、近年、スキー人気は復活の傾向にあるようです。

ところで、アメリカではレトロなスキーウェアに着目した、こんなブームがじわじわ来ているようです。

↑2014年の1月には、80sのスキースーツがドレスコードのクラブイベントが開催された模様。

アメリカ・カナダで近年異様な盛り上がりを見せている、クリスマスのダサセーターほどではないですが、あえて80年代、90年代のヴィンテージ感あるスキーウェアを着てスキーをする若者も、じわじわ増えているとかいないとか。

↑こちらはなんと、1929年のバーバリーのスキースーツ。ダサいどころか、むしろかっこいいですが、ペラペラでちょっと寒そうではあります。

私も、これなら滑れないのも雪山に行ったことがないのも、全部ウェアのせいにできそうな気がするので、まずはリサイクルショップを回って、ヴィンテージのスキースーツを探してみたいと思います。
